It took around 2 hours to know the pregnancy test result when the first pregnancy kit was used in the year 1978. now we cant wait that much to know the results. In those days it took 2 weeks to know the result through tests done at a doctor’s office. For them knowing the pregnancy test result in 2 hours is so fast. They used a test tube for doing the test.

Patience is what counts

In those days they had to wait looking at the test tube in the room that is used for pregnancy test. The pregnancy test result came only after 2 hours. It cost around $10 to use that home pregnancy test kit to know the pregnancy test result. 30 years ago spending $10 for such tests was more.

Now-a-days we have to wait for only 2 or 3 minutes to know the result. But the real wait is for the day on which to do the test. Some of the pregnancy kits advertise that you can use it even before you miss your periods. But it is not sure that you would get a reliable pregnancy test result. Even if you use it before missing your period you have to do a second test to confirm it after a few days. You can’t rely on such early pregnancy test result.

There are chances for getting a false positive result but it is rare. Most of the time the positive pregnancy test result turns out to be positive. It is only when you get a negative pregnancy test result you tend to do the test after a few days. So it is better to wait for a few more days when you take the first pregnancy test.

Using Blood tests to detect pregnancy

If money is not a constraint for you then you can go for blood tests that can determine the pregnancy. Detecting pregnancy through blood tests gives you accurate pregnancy test result. You can rely on such pregnancy test result.

The blood tests performed measure the amount of pregnancy hormone present in it whatever be the level of that hormone. In a urine test there is chances for negative pregnancy test result if the kit is not sensitive enough to detect the low levels of hCG hormone.

This hCG hormone is produced only when the placenta attaches itself to the uterine wall. Until then the pregnancy test results might produce only negative results.
