EPT pregnancy test

Prior to 1978 there was no home pregnancy detection test kit was available. In the year 1978 EPT pregnancy entered the market which has the distinction of the first home pregnancy test kit.

In those days, the usual procedure was to consult the doctor to confirm the pregnancy. The doctors won’t even test unless the period is delayed by one week. After that the doctor will take the urine sample from the women and the women need to wait for two weeks to get the result.

When the news about the EPT pregnancy test kit started spreading the women were thrilled to know that the test result can be got within two hours instead of two weeks. The people just thronged the stores to buy the kit. But the look of the kit was really frightening for them. Though the procedure was so simple, the women became nervous by the very sight of the equipment as it had test tube, dropper, cup, strip etc.

The women need to collect the urine in a cup. The collected urine must be transferred to the test tube using the medicine dropper. The test will contain some other ingredients; one such is red blood cells of a sheep.

Then the test tube is kept undisturbed for about two hours. Then the test tube must be placed on a holder. Then the test tube is viewed using a mirror to see the dark brown circle in case the test is positive, meaning pregnant.

At the time of the arrival the meaning of EPT was early pregnancy test. But at present the meaning is error proof test. This is because much more sensitive tests that could detect the pregnancy earlier than EPT have come in to the market now.

With the advancement in technology, EPT pregnancy test has got some changes. Earlier the dark brown circle was the indication of the positive test. At present there are two different models are in the market. One is digital model and the other is non digital model. In both models midstream test tube is used.

In the regular non digital model, the strip is held in the flow of urine for 5 seconds and latter placed on a flat surface. After waiting for few minutes one has to look at the display window. If plus sign is shown then the test is positive and if minus sign is shown the test is negative.

In the digital model, the strip needs to be held in the flow of urine for 5 seconds, latter must be placed in a holder. After few minutes one can get PREGNANT in the display window for positive test and NOT PREGNANT in case of negative result.

But it is great achievement and advancement, because we have come to few minutes wait level from two weeks wait level in order to know the result in EPT pregnancy test.
