Early home pregnancy test

The first home pregnancy that came to the market was EPT. This test kit was introduced in the market in the year 1978. At that time the test was called as early pregnancy test and now the name of the test is error proof test. This was the first home pregnancy test that got FDA approval and the price at the time of introduction was ten dollars.

This early home pregnancy test kit had a test tube, a vial of purified water, and the red blood cells of a sheep. The doctors agreed that the test can be done at home but advised the patients to come to their clinic for further confirmation.

This early home pregnancy test took nearly two hours to give the result. The look of the test tube and the dropper really was intimidating for the no medical persons. One need look in an angled mirror placed under the test tube .presence of a dark ring is the indication that the test is positive.

After some time it was informed that the presence of blue ring is the pregnancy indication. This test can detect the pregnancy hormone when its level reaches 40 m IU level. The EPT test is 97 % accurate for positive results and 80% accurate for negative results.

In good olden days one need to wait for two hours for getting the result in EPT. The present day women will laugh at those waited for two hours to get the result. Now the result can be received within few minutes.

In the year 1978, EPT was the only early home pregnancy test. Soon after the arrival of EPT, other tests like answer, predictor, and ACU-TEST followed. Since few tests that can detect the pregnancy much earlier to EPT is in the market, EPT has changed its name to error proof test. One such test is first response test.

The EPT test can detect the pregnancy hormone at 40 m IU level or more. But this test is highly reliable than the many other tests. The pregnancy hormone, [HCG] produced by the placenta can be detected in the blood and urine which is the basis for confirmation of the pregnancy in EPT test and many other early home pregnancy test.

At present the EPT test have gone digital. Go are the days of looking for line and symbol for the confirmation of pregnancy. Now a day one can see word PREGNANT in case of positive result and NOT PREGNANT in case of negative result. This is aimed at reducing the difficulty in interpreting the results by common folks as at times the line formed is faint.
